MCCD CAREER PATH

  • MCCD Officer Cadet - $48,843
  • MCO1 - $62,176 (upon completion of POST certification)
  • MCO2 - $65,758 annually (NAS I A & B Training and 18 months service as a Compliance Officer I)
  • MCO3 - $72,509 annually (Basic HAZMAT, Cargo Tank and Bulk Packaging Training and 4 years of total sworn service)
  • Senior MCCD Officer- $75,412
  • Master MCCD Officer- $78,461


Employment Qualifiers

  • US Citizen
  • High School Diploma from an accredited high school or GED
  • At least 21 years old upon graduation from Officer School
  • Able to successfully pass the pre-employment process which includes physical fitness test, polygraph, background investigation, oral interview, psychological and medical evaluations
  • Meet requirements for certification as a peace officer by Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T)
  • Minimum vision of 20/60 uncorrected in each eye, and corrected to 20/40 or better in both eyes with glasses or contact lenses
  • Must have a valid Georgia Driver’s License upon successful completion of Officer School


Employment Disqualifiers

Employment in law enforcement agencies involves public trust. Only those persons whose conduct, character and behavior does not discredit either themselves or the Department of Public Safety (DPS) will be employed. The DPS employment process will address the integrity, ethical conduct, honesty, prejudices, financial responsibility (credit), and past behavior of all applicants.

While DPS reviews much information and considers the circumstances in many areas regarding an applicant's background, the following standards are among those that will automatically disqualify applicants from consideration:
